You Have to be a Bit Older to Appreciate Some Memes

Here’s a meme that probably flies right over the heads of most millennials. But for those of us old enough to remember Nancy Kerrigan and Tanya Harding… Hoo boy!

For those who don’t remember, Tanya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan were both talented figure skaters back in the early 1990s. Before they were set to compete against each other in the 1994 Winter Olympics, Harding’s ex-husband bashed Nancy Kerrigan in the knee with a crowbar in a dark alley.

Kerrigan then won the Silver medal in figure skating, while Harding placed eighth. Everyone will obviously always wonder whether Kerrigan could have taken the Gold, if only she hadn’t been attacked by Harding’s ex. Yikes. Totally true story.

Pretty easy to see the comparison to Bernie Sanders and the DNC now that you know that, isn’t it? From Bloomberg being allowed into the race way too late (and being allowed into the debates), to Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar dropping out and endorsing Joe Biden, everything that’s happened in the last few weeks has been orchestrated to do one thing: To metaphorically bash Bernie in the knee in a dark alley.
