You Don’t ‘Need Feminism’ to Be Successful

These sort of posts have been a popular staple for left-leaning social media pages for a long time, and exactly none of them have resulted in modern feminism receiving the level of respect they demand.

This image is perhaps one of the best examples to date. Here, we see a woman holding up a characteristic hand-written sign explaining why the quasi-Marxist ideology is paramount for her existence.

“I need feminism because my gender studies degree is just as valid as anyone else’s degree,” the sign reads.

Apparently, without feminism, her college degree would be worthless — which it would be regardless. There is nothing that verifies an educational program with precisely zero economic value.

Truthfully, colleges and universities in the United States are robbing impressionable young people blind just by offering such programs. Outside of following your feminist professor’s footsteps and joining the academia, there is almost nothing a gender studies degree can guarantee.

In fact, throwing this on your resume may actually be a detriment, as it could convince employers that you’re likely to spend more time complaining about an ambiguous wage gap rather than contributing to a company’s well-being.

All of this underscores how feminism lost its way long ago when it became co-opted by opportunists within academic institutions. Young Americans are essentially jumping into pools of debt for a degree that diminishes their prospects in the labor market, rather than accomplishing the opposite.
