When the Mainstream Media Presents “All Sides” of an Issue

Political pundits and so-called comedians used to have a field day when the Fox News Channel changed its slogan to “fair and balanced”, because it was well understood that the broadcaster was firmly on the right side of the isle.

Weirdly, this treatment is missed on the rest of the mainstream media, which doesn’t even pretend to be objective anymore. CNN executives will tell you with a straight face that people like Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon are objective journalists, when it is clear that they are anything but that.

But, there are still some smoke and mirror tactics at work here — even CNN has to have a Republican guest on every now and then to keep up appearances. Most of the time, however, panel discussions on programs like “New Day” either gloss over or completely misrepresent the conservative perspective on just about everything.

So, when mainstream broadcasters tease that they are bringing in guests to represent “all sides” of an issue, it usually plays out like the cartoon you see here.
