What it MUST Be Like Dating Actual Communists

For the past three years or so, many American liberals have given up even calling themselves “liberal” anymore — and that’s probably for the best.

The word first came into prominence at the turn of the 19th century, usually to describe anti-monarchists in France and other European states at the time. These were individuals who were heavily inspired by what had just happened to the now former British colonies in North America, which roundly rejected the rule of a despot living 3,000 miles away. They too wanted the freedom to determine the course of their own lives.

Today, the word “liberal” is irrelevant, because such people no longer exist on the left. Democratic socialism is the trendy ideology of the day, and is typically espoused by people who want the precise opposite of what 19th century liberals wanted. The idea of an all-powerful government is actually appealing for them, because it means they don’t have to actually put the energy into directing their own lives.

But, at least they can practice pottery, or whatever is going on in this picture right here…
