Former Vice President Joe Biden has consistently been hailed as the most “electable” candidate out of any of the other thousand Democrats running. And to be fair, early polling data largely supported this — in hypothetical match ups, he was able to beat President Donald Trump pretty easily.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen Biden’s numbers steadily drop. His image as a “moderate” (which is false) is hurting him more than it’s helping him, even though the majority of Democratic voters are not as far left as people like Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren. He also has no intersectional identity — he’s a white man. He can’t claim the same degree of victimhood people like Warren, Cory Booker, or Kamala Harris can. He is the embodiment of evil according to the radical left.
But this isn’t even Biden’s worst problem. The issue for the former VP is that, despite the fact that he was Vice President for eight years and served in the U.S. Senate for decades before that, he is trying to position himself as a “change” candidate — taking a cue from his former boss. That’s impossible to do when you’ve been in government for as long as you have.
Voters simply can’t take Biden seriously when he talks about making fundamental changes to public policy — because he had that chance for most of his adult life. He’s treading water, and everyone can see that.
