The conflict between Democrats and Republicans in the United States can be re-thought as a conflict between the biggest cities and the rest of the country.
There are a lot of theories as to why inner cities tend to be the deepest blue parts of the electoral map. Some say that living in such a close proximity with others causes people to be more altruistic, and Democrats are better able to play on those emotions.
But, it wasn’t always this way. Remember: it wasn’t that long ago when Rudy Guliani became the mayor of New York City. His administration reversed the area’s infamous crime problem. Even today, New Yorkers are benefitting from these tough-on-crime policies, all the while suffering under whatever the hell Bill de Blasio has been doing.
Some of the worst-managed cities in America haven’t even seen a Republican in a generation. Considering the predicaments that they all seem to be in, it’s hard to believe this is a coincidence…
