Following the mass shooting that took place in Christchurch, New Zealand earlier in March, the county’s government immediately moved to ban all semi-automatic weapons — effectively criminalizing around 200,000 people for the actions of one vile person.
While this would be seen by many in the United States as a gross abuse of government power in the wake of a tragedy, American leftists had nothing but praise for Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern — who took the ‘wokeness’ to another level by appearing in a hijab the following day.
On the surface, there’s nothing implicitly wrong with showing solidarity with a group of people — particularly after they were victimized by an individual who had a stated intention to use violence against them for racial reasons. But, what if we altered a few of the details — do you think the left would have the same reaction?
Of course not.
Make no mistake: the PM’s actions were nothing short of authoritarian in nature. New Zealanders are far less free now than they were just weeks ago, and they have their own elected leader to thank for it.
