The Real Reason why Nancy Pelosi Doesn’t Want Impeachment

House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi is about as liberal as Democrats come, but she’s been very reluctant to join the rest of her caucus in pushing forward with plans to impeach President Donald Trump.

Make no mistake — this doesn’t mean that Pelosi doesn’t want to usurp the president. Like every other Democrat in Congress right now, that’s been the plan since Trump was sworn in. Pelosi isn’t at all being a moderate by trying to contain her fellow members in the House. She’s never been a moderate about anything. She does, however, understand how politics works, and knows damn well that an impeached Trump is an immunized Trump, as the Atlantic recently put it.

We’ve said this before, and we’ll say it again — President Trump hasn’t been charged with anything. Robert Mueller found no link between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. Even obstruction of justice was a stretch, because it turned out that there was no justice to obstruct. If Democrats try to impeach the president anyway, the American people are going to turn on them, and Pelosi knows this.

Say what you want about the current Speaker — and we’ve said plenty — but she isn’t that dumb. Perhaps we should be rooting for her radical caucus, which could easily hand 2020 to Trump on a silver platter just by being crazy.
