The Jussie Smollett News Cycle in a Nutshell

The Jussie Smollett saga was one of the most obvious examples of what President Donald Trump calls “fake news” in a long time, and the media wants us all to forget about it as soon as possible.

Remember, this is bigger than some would-be celebrity that almost no one has heard about faking a hate crime against himself. This is about how the media was ready and willing to run with whatever the man said because it fit the narrative they have been constructing for years. It didn’t matter that the odds of two white supremacists walking around the streets of Chicago at 2am in the middle of the blizzard with bleach and a noose on hand are next to nothing. Pundits saw an opportunity, and they took it.

Smollett is probably going to get off easy — we could have expected that as soon as he was arrested and began playing the “I’m depressed” card. That doesn’t matter — we have to keep our eyes on the prize. We have to watch for the media to do this again. Remember, this happened less than a month after the entire media slandered Covington Catholic. They’re going to try again.
