The Evolution of Liberal Foreign Policy Since 2001

Every time progressives tell you that we’re living in unspeakable times, and that America is finally making its transition from democracy to autocracy, remember one thing: we’ve been through this routine before.

When George W. Bush was President of the United States, he was literally Hitler. The entire entertainment establishment was mobilized against him, and Democrats running for Congress and other offices framed their campaigns as revolutions to save the country as we knew it. If only they knew what was coming next.

Of course, Bush’s great evil was responding to the largest terrorist attack in American history by sending troops into Afghanistan, and later into Iraq. Now, that second move is certainly debatable, and conservatives have largely come to reconsider the wisdom there. But remember: the intelligence community was on the same page as the Bush Administration at the time — everyone thought Saddam had nukes or something worse.

Today, we’re seeing President Donald Trump move mostly in the opposite direction. Troops are returning home, and wars are being ended. For some reason, this is being portrayed as just as tyrannical as the guy who put the troops there in the first place.

At this point, we can only assume one thing: Donald Trump will be the most vile, racist, evil person to occupy the White House only until the next Republican becomes president.
