In November 2019, President Donald Trump pardoned two combat veterans who had previously faced disciplinary action for allegedly taking things too far in the line of duty.
Naturally, leftists are outraged, and pretending to take the same position as the rest of the military — ignoring the fact that the left seldom has a single nice thing to say about the U.S. Armed Forces or anyone who serves in it. It’s never a bad time to conveniently change your position on something to make a point…
Trump’s critics contend that the military had made its own decision, and that it’s improper to use the pardoning power in this way. After all, they were already convicted, right?
To be clear: the two men freed were not accused of mercilessly slaughtering people to terrorize the surrounding population. There were no allegations that they were trying to undermine American interests. They made no aggression towards any friendly or surrendering target.
The same cannot be said for five men freed under former President Barack Obama. No, these men are just a bit different, starting with the fact that all of them were leading members of the Taliban.
Once again, two presidents, two very different choices…
