In this image, we see a child locked in a blank stare as he realizes he somehow failed at microwaving a cup of ramen. It’s a standard template for many memes, particularly on Reddit. However, the captions don’t do the humorous picture any justice.
The Republican Party has almost never advocated for any tax increases — not on the poor, middle class, or anyone else. It’s true that many conservative lawmakers are skeptical of Medicare’s long-term viability, but this is only because the program is beset by millions of dollars in unfunded liabilities.
What is more, the official conservative position on the matter of Medicare reform is balancing cuts with liberalized regulations on purchasing health insurance. Allowing insurers to compete with one another across state lines will inevitably lead to lower premiums and higher quality care.
