Rand Paul Scorns Republicans Over Omnibus Spending Bill

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul broke ranks from his Republican colleagues after a massive $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill made its way through Congress.

The spending bill enjoyed largely bipartisan support, allocating funds for nearly everything from President Trump’s proposed border wall to various other Democratic pet projects as well. However, in keeping consistent with his reputation as a spending hawk, Paul ripped the bill and Republican leadership as well for hastily rushing the bill into law without leaving lawmakers a lot of time to actually read it.

After announcing he would not vote for the bill, Paul instead took to Twitter to lay out the more insane things the spending package actually funded. Many of them caught readers by complete surprise — such as millions of dollars allocated to social programs in foreign countries.

Thanks to Paul, scores of Twitter followers blasted the bill, putting pressure on President Trump to veto the package and accept an eventual government shutdown. While the president seemed to initially respond to the growing negativity, he eventually signed the bill anyway.
