Meme Compares Donald Trump to Colin Kaepernick

This is probably not a comparison you see very often, and for good reason.

This image, posted to Reddit’s ‘Political Humor’ page, attempts to demonstrate some level of hypocrisy on behalf of the American public for praising one messenger and condemning another for allegedly saying the same thing. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan wasn’t based on the idea that the United States is an inherently evil place. Rather, the slogan touched on the idea that the country’s quality of life had diminished from previous years, and included a promise to fix it by returning to that state of being.

Colin Kaepernick, the now unemployed quarterback, signaled a very different message with his decision to kneel during the national anthem at NFL football games. In an attempt to show solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, Kaepernick effectively took the position that America is inherently evil, particularly to racial minorities. To drive this message home, Kaepernick appeared wearing a t-shirt honoring authoritarian communist Fidel Castro during a presser following his first demonstration.

Clearly, one of the two messengers in this image maintains a positive view of the country while the other does not. Conflating the two to prove a point simply pokes more holes in your own argument.
