It’s Not a Real Pandemic Until It Gets Its Own John Wayne Meme

You almost have to be of a certain age in order to get the joke-within-a-joke in this meme. In fact, we had to ask one of the geezers on our staff to explain this one to us.

The John Wayne joke may have originated as far back as the 1970s (possibly on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, but don’t quote us on that). It went like this:

“Have you heard about John Wayne’s new brand of toilet paper? It’s rough and tough and won’t take **** off of anyone.”

Not the best joke ever, but not bad. Now that you know the origins of this meme’s joke, you’re ready for your big appearance on Jeopardy! You’re welcome.

But as the late John Wayne notes in this meme, nobody’s laughing now. In fact, if John Wayne’s brand of toilet paper was actually available in stores, we’d all be buying it. Or, we’d at least be buying as many rolls as the stores allow us to buy.

Seriously, what’s with all of you toilet paper hoarders? The rest of us need some, too!
