Human Sacrifice Looks a LOT Different Today

Anyone who has even heard about the Aztec civilization that used to dominate modern day Mexico knows about their most controversial custom: human sacrifice.

Unfortunately for those of us living in the modern day, a lot of the details about pre-Columbian history in the New World have been lost to time. So, we don’t know exactly how many people fell to the blade on top of these massive monuments to terror, but the paintings we’ve seen make it clear enough that this was a regular occurrence.

There seems to have been many reasons the Aztecs used to justify this behavior. One of them, as seen in (mostly inaccurate) film adaptations like Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto, was that it was believed that the blood of these captives would appease the sky gods, resulting in better harvests and life overall.

If you think about it, this isn’t too different from how modern leftists justify abortion. You see, we have to think of the woman first — not the living human growing inside of her. By sacrificing that pesky fetus, the woman can have it all — a career, a bunch of cats, or whatever else.
