We’ve talked about this a lot before here, but it’s worth repeating — what counts as “feminism” today is hardly the same school of thought shared by those who gave us the 19th Amendment, and powerful women in public life such as Carly Fiorina.
Early 20th century feminism was, by all accounts, an effort to improve our classical understanding of civil rights and the U.S. Constitution. It wasn’t about rebuilding society from the ground up — it was about realizing that “all men are created equal” applied to all Americans.
The version of feminism we see today is often referred to as “third wave feminism.” Instead of advocating for equality between the sexes, its proponents call for “equity” — or rather, the equality of outcome. It is a dangerous train of thought based on the idea that men who are successful are only so because they stole resources from someone else. Now, if this was the 1800s, that argument could make sense. But we’re not. There are no laws on any books in the United States that dictate that men and women must be treated differently in the eyes of the law.
This isn’t empowerment. This is celebrating victimhood.
