Fact: Social Justice Warriors Would Rip Down Every Statue in Rome

As early as 2015, calls for the removal of Confederate statues and other Civil War memorabilia became more pronounced in American discourse. Why many have argued that the statues are a firm reminder of our history, others have countered that they are relics of a outdated and racist culture.

The truth is that both of these things can be true at the same time. Statues cannot be evil in and of themselves. The evil action here would be looking to statues of figures like Robert E. Lee with some sense of veneration. But, there is nothing inherently evil about documenting the existence of influential figures in history — especially from a time before photography was as developed or accessible as it is today.

Then, there are people who take this to the next level, and look past the purpose of statues and attribute new meanings to them. There are now serious calls for the statues of the Founding Fathers to be removed because many of them owned slaves.

Perhaps someone should tell the social justice warriors that this is where this line of thinking takes you.
