Fact Check: Churches are Among the Most Charitable Organizations Ever

It’s an argument liberals have been using to slander social conservatives for decades: that Republicans only care about you while you’re still in a womb, and leave you to die in the woods as soon as you’re born.

Of course, memes like this are hardly unusual. The left has been attacking organized religion since the late 19th century. It’s past time this ridiculous notion that all churches are simply money-grabbing machines is refuted.

The fact of the matter is that “pro-life” organizations typically do include feed the hungry, as large religious groups like the Catholic Church are among the most charitable entities in the world.

Churches rarely release data on their charitable giving, but when they do, the numbers are staggering. In 2010 alone, the Catholic Church spent upwards of $160 billion on charity work, amounting to almost a fifth of all charitable activity by non-profits during that year. Of course, this number does not include donations made by other denominations.

It’s a shame liberals have such an axe to grind with religion. While Democrats are complaining that rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer, religious organizations are actually stepping up and doing something about it.
