Watching the Democratic Party’s primary presidential debates is like watching a bidding war in real time: a candidate pledges to spend X amount of money on some social welfare cause, and the next candidate will just up the ante. It’s really a sight to behold…
No two candidates do this more obviously than Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. With each running to the far left of the party’s center, it’s almost impossible to tell their policies apart. In fact, they seem to be mirroring each other at every turn.
Weirdly, though, Sanders and Warren have yet to have any meaningful clash either on a debate stage or anywhere else. Since both candidates are competing for the same supporters — that is, privileged white kids who think everything should be free because their hip professor told them so — you would expect more of a conflict. However, one has yet to happen.
But, here’s the thing: this clash is inevitable if former Vice President Joe Biden can’t hold on to his lead in the polls. Once that campaign begins to crack, expect the sparks to fly between the people who want you to think they’re the nicest people in the room.
