Comparing Guns to Sharks is Just Plain Stupid

Another day, another logical fallacy on gun control…

The obvious intent here is to attack a perceived inaction on behalf of American lawmakers, despite the fact that almost no laws played a factor in the recent mass shooting in Texas. If anything, the government itself is in the hot seat: the shooter already had a criminal record, but his information wasn’t added to the national database by the U.S. Air Force.

Beyond that, we have to address the real stupidity here, which is comparing sharks (wild animals who will eat just about anything they feel doesn’t threaten them), and guns — which have no sentience whatsoever.

What the mass shooting in Texas told us is that good men with guns do play a role in protecting their communities — the assailant took a hit and was pursued by a private citizen with an AR-15 of his own, who also happened to be an NRA instructor.

No amount of logical fallacies and memeing is going to change the facts.
