CNN When the School Shooter Doesn’t Meet Expectations

At least two high school students were killed in a deadly school shooting perpetrated by one of its own attendants.

We’re still learning about the incident, wherein it appears students were targeted at random. But the little information we have tells us a lot about how the media plans on covering events like this going forward.

For one, we aren’t hearing about this nearly as much as we heard about the attack at a high school in Parkland, Florida. Granted, the shooting was deadlier and claimed many lives. But there’s something else we can’t shake: the shooter in California doesn’t seem to meet the standards for CNN’s scare tactics.

As the meme points out, the California shooter wasn’t white (he is Asian), and didn’t use those scare “assault rifle fifteens” to carry out the attack. Instead he used a standard .45 pistol, a weapon not normally thought to cause mass destruction.

Of course, this is still a tragedy all on its own, especially for the families of those affected. But, you’ll notice that we’re not hearing about the need to ban rifles, or put up more “gun free zone” signs, because neither of these factors apply in this case.
