The Iowa Caucuses are always the first real contest with actual voting in a presidential election year. And every four years, all of us non-Iowans are a bit mystified by the fascinating and somewhat confusing system that the parties use in Iowa.
That’s perfectly fine. It’s their caucus, their rules and so on. Enjoy yourselves, Iowa, and God bless you. We’ll just wait for the results as usual, without trying to really understand how their process works.
One thing we do know is that the Iowa caucuses have worked fine for well over a century, using ancient technologies like pencils, paper ballots and the telephone to call the final results in to headquarters.
But oh, ho ho nooo! Not this year. In 2020, the Party of Science Democrats unveiled their new amazing (Pete Buttigieg-funded) app for counting the people and the votes gathered for the Iowa caucuses. And… we’re still waiting for results in Iowa after the app bungled everything.
Hey, weird! Buttigieg dumped a bundle of cash into the app that wrecked the caucuses… and it looks like he’s now in the lead. You don’t think that’s a coincidence, do you?
Oh, well, according to this meme, a noted counting expert is on his way to Des Moines to help out with what really should have been a simple process.
