Hip-hop icon Cardi B, who makes unintelligible music, apparently has a pretty dark past — and no one in the media seems to care at all.
In late March, it was revealed that the rapper spent her early days meeting strange men, drugging them until they passed out, and robbing them. While the rapper herself has stated that she does not mean to glorify her past behavior, the reaction from the media is really telling about the state of our culture.
If a male celebrity had come forward with a story like this, even if it described events that happened years or even decades prior, there would be a near-universal call for his career to come to a grinding halt. There would be court cases, loss of sponsorships, and everything in between.
So, why hasn’t Cardi B received this treatment? She is essentially a #MeToo story, but there has been no significant negative reaction.
The truth is that the feminist orthodoxy that dominates mainstream media and pop culture has decided that women must be elevated above men. Their transgressions are often written off or outright ignored. Really, this shouldn’t surprise anyone.
