“Anti-Fascists” and Antifa Are Not the Same

This image has been floating around progressive social media pages for the past few days, and almost comes close to making an argument — that is, if you believe the professional rioting organization known as Antifa is actually anti-fascist in nature.

The image attempts to break down alleged differences between fascists (represented by the Nazi flag) and the infamous protesters who believe they are opposing them in places like UC Berkeley.

The most telling part of this meme is in the second column, where the content creator admits that so-called “anti-fascists” openly advocate using violence to achieve political goals. The user tries to soften this stance by noting that this militarism is meant to prevent genocide, but that’s particularly hard to believe when Antifa has been shown targeting private businesses and in some cases right-of-center pundits who openly reject authoritarian forms of government.

This contention is followed by a blatant lie further down the list where the content creator compares stances on free speech. The user claims that Antifa is perfectly fine with free speech unless it calls for genocide. This argument has been utterly shattered by Antifa’s attempts to disrupt peaceful events such as UC Berkeley’s “free speech week”.

Considering the lies promulgated by the mainstream media and other online outlets like Buzzfeed, Vox, and others, one almost feels bad for the hordes of young Americans who have been seduced into believing they are actually fighting for something meaningful.
