Another Reason We MUST Keep the Electoral College

Democratic Party partisans continue to voice support for removing the Electoral College, but images like this help us understand exactly how problematic that would be.

A big misconception many have about the United States and its Founding Fathers is that both were grounded in democracy — the ancient Athenian idea that a majority of the masses should sway public policy. The truth is that the Founding Fathers did not support democracy — they supported democratic institutions, like free and fair elections. But the system they sought to put in place was not “democratic” in and of itself. It borrowed from this Greek idea, but built upon it to ensure mob rule was not the law of the land.

The Founders understood that rural areas and urban areas have different political interests, and balancing those interests was key to maintaining a long-lasting republic. The Electoral College leverages these interests, ensuring that deeply progressive places like New York and Los Angeles don’t dictate over more rural areas.

So, imagine the Electoral College didn’t exist while looking at this image — how long do you think such a country would really last?
