Again: Repealing Obamacare Is NOT Repealing “Health Care”

Lefty memers have been hitting the Republican-led health care reform effort pretty hard, falling back on aging tactics in the process by suggesting that getting rid of entitlements is the same thing as actually killing people.

The meme to the left borrows a famous quote from The Lord of the Rings films, wherein the Gondorian Boromir dismisses the quest to destroy the One Ring by saying “one does not simply walk into Mordor” — referring to the most hostile region in Middle Earth.

Here, we see the same sentiment expressed in the context of Obamacare repeal. “How can we repeal healthcare?” the meme implores, seemingly ignoring the fact that there was a functioning health care system in the United States long before Obamacare was even a word.

If there was anything that “repealed health care”, it was the 2009 legislation that forced premiums to skyrocket and kicked hard-working Americans off of their own health care plans. Proponents of the draconian law love to point to the larger number of Americans who have health insurance as a result of that law, ignoring the fact that much of this is due to the fact that they were forced to buy into the program.
