A Leftist Guide for Talking About Religion

The radical left in America isn’t very fond of organized religion. Well, it is sometimes — Islam seems to get a pass, as do some Jewish organizations (not orthodox — they vote Republican). Despite this hostility, mainline liberals are happy to invoke religion when they feel it can help them. South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg is the perfect example of this.

The left’s weird relationship with religion took another strange turn after a terrorist attack targeting Christians in Sri Lanka — which led to the deaths of hundreds — was reported last week. As politicians are known to do, just about everyone with a blue check mark next to their Twitter handle sounded off the condolences. But unlike the solidarity shown with Muslims following the Christchurch attack in New Zealand where the victims were actually recognized, “Easter worshippers” was used instead of the proper label — “Christians.”

Looking at the sheer number of people who did this, which included both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, it’s hard to see it as some sort of coincidence. Virtually every Democratic star was using this language.

Since we’re changing the way we talk about religion, we feel this is a good guide to get us started so that we’re all on the same page…
